I Wonder…

You know sometimes I wonder, who ever thought of things like juggling? What person decided to throw multiple objects in the air and catch them? Sure it’s cool and all, but who got the idea? Most likely a farmer I think, since they would be playing with a lot of round fruit anyway. I guess handstands would be done to show off, but you’d think you would fall on you’re face a lot. And sword swallowing? Sure the guy who thought of that was REALLY intelligent.

Minnie The Moocher

So Yesterday Stephen and I found a big problem with the song Minnie the Moocher. The song says she sat and counted a 1,000,000 dollars worth of nickels and dimes, a 1,000,000 times. Therefore, she had at least ten 10,000,001 coins (because she had to had at least two nickels). If she counted one coin per second she would have been dreaming for 10,000,000 seconds. Then she counted them a 1,000,000 times so that’s 10,000,001 times 1,000,000 which is 10 to the power of 13. If you divided it by all the seconds in the year, which is 1,314,000 (not including leap years), it’s about 317,097.95. So she ended up having that really boring dream for over 300,000 years. No wonder they say poor Min at the end of the song.

Sick as a Dog

Have you ever wondered where the expression “sick as a dog” comes from? I mean do dogs just get sick more often then people? I don’t think this is the case because every time I see a dog it looks fairly healthy… you know for a dog. Or do dogs just get extra sick when they do get sick? Having never owned a dog I may never know.

Thought of the Day

I was just wondering, why do fans have three settings?  I mean I like options too, but I only ever use the high setting.  I’ll bet most people never use the other settings either, because really who gets a fan and thinks, “I only want just a little breeze.”

Or even more unlikely, “If only I could have a medium bit of wind.”

Not that I really care, it’s the fan makers decision.  If they want three settings, good for them, it just seems excessive.

Polar Opposites

So, this evening while we were doing the dishes, we were discussing the North and South poles, and Stephen pointed out something rather amusing. The phrase Polar Opposites means that two things are very different, but the poles are two of the most identical places on earth! They both have a sunless winter, and they have similar housing conditions, because no one wants to live there because it’s freezing!

Is It Christmas Yet?

As we get nearer to Christmas I realize there are some problems with living Florida. What I mean is in Ohio it was always very easy to tell when it was getting close to Christmas because, well, it would start to snow. Now I have to wait for the radio to start playing Christmas music to know when it’s nearing Christmas, which can get kinda tricky. I guess I could use a calendar, but really where’s the fun in that?

The World is Full of Questions

I try not to get philosophical here on the Longbow Blog (mostly because I’m afraid I’d just look like a babbling dunce), but today I want to share a question that has been pressing on my mind for some time.  Who discovered mushrooms were editable?

Most oddball cuisines- like the snails, sushi, and clams – I understand.  Someone was obviously starving and decided, “eh, what’s the worst that could happen?” But we know the worst that can happen when you eat wild mushrooms, they’re not mushrooms but actually toadstools and you die.

Now I understand why you might try some foods that look like they should be deadly.  People probably thought cherries were poisonous once upon a time. After all they’re small red fruits, but someone probably saw birds and other tiny critters eating them and thought, “Cool, they’re not dead so I can probably eat them!”

But really who thought to himself, “Well most of these little slimy things that grow in the dark in filth and refuse kill you and some of them just make you hallucinate, but these are slightly different.  I think I’ll try some!”

It seems like a recipe for disaster.

Nothing

So what am I going to write about today? NOTHING absolutely NOTHING. In fact you should probably just stop reading this post. It just isn’t worth it because I am just going to stop writing…. Are you still here? Seriously I have nothing to say and if there is one thing I hate it’s people who say they are going to stop talking or writing but never do because they know that if there are words on the page your eyes will naturally read it. It could continue on into infinity. Seriously if you are going to stop just do it. But I’m done I’m just going to stop writing right now… Okay now I’m done… Definitely the last thing…

ARE YOU STILL HERE?

Food for the Thought?

So, if something really profound is food for the thought, then is something really stupid poison for the thought? Or, maybe it’s just bad for you food for the thought. Maybe things that are really intelligent are organic food for the thought, and regular things that make you think are normal food for the thought and this post is just junk food for the thought.
