A Journey to Rome!

Today we went to Common Ground again and had many wondrous adventures.    We witnessed Nicholas become King of the Apes.20150512_085422 There wasn’t much competition since there aren’t very many apes in Common Ground and really, who is going to argue with the man who can out teeter-totter Stephen.20150512_084944We (Anne, Christopher, Robert, and I) then traversed the Mountain Plain20150512_083650 20150512_blogto find the strange yet wonderful Robert Koala (which is different from a regular Robert). 20150512_085330After we had found it we went on our most fantastic adventure yet.  We went to Rome!  It happened like this; when we returned from finding the Robert Koala we decided to rest in the swings.  There was a tremendously big one so Anne suggested we all pile on and have Stephen and Nicholas push us.  Stephen and Nicholas being very strong pushed us so hard the hinges broke and we went flying away in the swing.20150512_091201 We flew up very high spinning around in circles through a big, wet, cloud.  When we landed we looked around and tried to figure out where we were.  Luckily the Pope happened to be going by and hearing of our problem set right to helping us.  He told us we had landed in Rome, but he would be glad to help us get home again.  He had us get on another swing and the Swiss Guard push us until the hinges broke on that swing and we went flying back.  It was on this trip that Robert learned that the Swiss are not made out of cheese.  We landed safely in the park and went home.  That’s what happened when we went to Common Ground.  Or at least, that’s how I choose to remember it.

Grilling

To celebrate Mother’s Day we were planning on eating steak for dinner.  We had also been wanting to go to the beach for a while and the ideal day to go seemed to be Sunday.  So since we still wanted to go to the beach we decided to eat the steak for dinner tonight.  We thought that if we wanted to get to the beach after Mass we should grill chicken today and eat it on the way home.  So today I’ve been busy grilling chicken for tomorrow’s dinner, burgers for today’s lunch, and I will grill the steaks for dinner tonight.  Grilling is a full time job!

Why Kangaroos have Pouches

Once very long ago there were only two kangaroos in the whole world, Mr. Kangaroo and Mrs. Kangaroo.  Mr. Kangaroo was a very strong and big kangaroo. In fact, he used to be a boxer, but that is another story entirely.  For this story is not about Mr. Kangaroo (though I will tell that story, just not right now).  No, this story is about Mrs. Kangaroo.  Mrs. Kangaroo was  very kind, soft spoken, and excellent at keeping the house cleaned and in order.  She could cook, sew, and clean beautifully, and Mr. Kangaroo loved her very much.  There was just one problem.  Mrs. Kangaroo was extremely forgetful.

When she would be making one of her special recipes such as Kangaroo Stew she would get distracted and the food would be ruined.  This made everyone sad because Kangaroo Stew is quite the delicacy, and if you have never tried it you should.  Obviously since it was made by kangaroos it has no kangaroo in it.  Mr. Kangaroo did not mind as long as there was food on the table when he got home.  Mrs. Kangaroo, however, was very worried since she was going to have a baby and she was afraid she might leave him somewhere and forget about him.Kangaroos Illustration b  Mr. Kangaroo was of a different opinion and thought it would be pretty hard to forget about a baby, but Mrs. Kangaroo was still very worried and flustered.

One day Mr. Kangaroo suggested that she make a purse to carry the baby in.  He later regretted that decision as Mrs. Kangaroo became so excited that she started on it immediately and completely forgot about lunch as she is wont to do.  She worked on the purse till late in the evening when it was almost finished.  Since she had been sewing all day and had not eaten lunch she grew very hungry and started rubbing her stomach while she wondered what to eat for dinner.  As she did this, alas much to her dismay (and our amusement) she sewed the purse to her stomach.  She was greatly distressed and kept saying, “What to do, what to do?”  Then her husband made the very helpful and intelligent suggestion, “How about we eat dinner and take care of it tomorrow.”  I do not know if she would have agreed and eaten dinner or if she would have kept on worrying for she had not the chance to do either.  For in typical baby timing the baby came right then.

The baby then jumped right into the pouch as if it had done it a million times before.  Mr. Kangaroo promptly pointed out that this way she could never forget the baby, and anyways they could work it out better on a full stomach.  Mrs. Kangaroo agreed.  In fact Mrs. Kangaroo was so delighted that the baby liked the pouch that she would have forgotten her dinner entirely, had Mr. Kangaroo not been there.  So they ate and were very happy, Mr. Kangaroo in his big chair and Mrs. Kangaroo in her chair with little Joey (that was the baby’s name of course) in her pouch.  That is why kangaroos have pouches.

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Yesterday, Nicholas and Stephen took Veronica, Robert, Christopher, Anne, and I to the library.  We had reserved some books, but we like to look through the books anyway so we stayed there for a while.  We started to go home and everything seemed normal.  Then I noticed that we were nearing one of the movie theaters.  I thought maybe Stephen and Nicholas were going to check out the playing time for the Avengers, as we were planning to go see it on Sunday.  We went to the theater and then everyone realized: we were going to see the Avengers!  We had a great time and it was a very good movie.  The rest of the family will go on Sunday so we have to make sure we don’t give away any spoilers.  Sunday seems so far away.  People might explode from excitement and anticipation.

Pineapples

Not only am I the main blogger, but I am also kinda the family gardener.  I also try to see what I can grow like the fresh basil or some flowers, and like weeding the plants to make sure they grow.  When we where at the Botanical Gardens in Naples I saw this.Naples-20130510-01618  A couple of weeks ago we were eating pineapples and I figured I would save the tops and see if I could grow them.  I did some research and as it turns out they are really durable and, as long as you plant them, they will grow with very little care.  I planted mine about a month ago and look at them now!IMG_2849IMG_2852See these little leaves in the middle?  Those are fresh sprouts.  They may not look like much now but they are supposed to grow up to be a meter around.  Just wait and see.  I also stopped Christopher and Robert from moving down these!IMG_2856Pretty aren’t they?  I’m trying to get them to grow all along the fence.  We’ll see how that goes.
